About Bryan
Bryan Ortiz was born on February 10, 1989 with an innate desire for speed. At age five, he was already a skilled snow skier, taking on difficult mountain trails; at six he was already handling in-line skis, and at eight he handled aptly the family boat. At eleven, Bryan showed interest in fun-karts, receiving very favorable comments from kart enthusiasts encouraging him to become involved in the competition karting scene.
Torn between speed at the track, the snow course and his tropical sea home environment, Bryan, at age fourteen became a member of the “Puerto Rico Power Squadron”, a participating group in the Power Boat scene organized by the Europe based “Federation of International Motor Boats”.
In 2002, Bryan made the transition to kart racing capturing the Yamaha Junior Karting Championship and Rookie of the Year Honors. The following year, Bryan captured many honors including the Tag Light Karting Championship, Rookie of the Year honors and a second place finish in his first Renault Formula Championship. In 2004, he was honored as the Formula Renault Champion in his second year competing in the series, an honor he repeated again the following year. Bryan moved on to compete in the Rolex Grand-Am and Koni Challenge Series taking many honors over the next several years. In November of 2009, Bryan was invited to Nashville for a two-day late model test with NASCAR Sprint Cup driver and two time Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin. Impressed by what he saw, Marlin signed Bryan to drive for the newly formed BD Racing with Sterling Marlin. In 2010, Bryan ran the full Sunoco National Tour schedule winning Rookie of the Year honors and finishing 2nd in the Sunoco National Tour Series Championship points.
